SUSTAINABILITY

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

At UIndy, we’re reducing our carbon footprint, one plastic container at a time! In Ober Dining Hall, students have the option to make a one-time $8 purchase for a reusable plastic container for their meals. They can return a soiled container for a token, which can be redeemed at any time for a clean container, free of charge! Integrating the reusable containers has helped us to eliminate Stryofoam carry-out boxes and has saved over 300 boxes per day ending up in landfills.

RTI OIL MANAGEMENT

We’re proud to partner with the RTI Oil Management program at UIndy. This grease filtration system allows grease to be recycled but also saves money on the filtration process. The program dramatically reduces cooking oil consumption, waste, and carbon emissions from the UIndy’s food service program, while also making our kitchens a safer place for our employees to work.

Helping to end Food Waste & Food Insecurity

The Food Recovery Network unites and supports college student leaders in the fight against food waste and hunger in America by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from their campuses and communities and donating it to people in need.

UIndy Dining has partnered with the UIndy Food Recovery Network to donate food waste produced in the dining hall. All donations go to benefit other non-for-profit organizations and homeless shelters across Indianapolis through the use of student volunteers.
